There has been a “Spark Joy” Movement World-Wide
In case you have missed it(even though it’s been EVER-Y-WHERE! LOL), there has been a “spark joy” movement world-wide in the last few months. Have you heard? Well…
A few years ago Marie Kondo (an organizing consultant and author) has been teaching people how to “tidy up” their lives. It started with her teaching people how to declutter all the nooks, crannies, and closets in their homes and has since exploded to a Netflix series where she goes into homes and walks them through the process of tidying up – btw, if you haven’t seen the series, you should really check it out. It’s quite motivating!
The Basic Premise
The basic premise now is that you should go through your home, in a very systematic way, and check out each item. As you look at and hold the item, decide whether or not that thing Sparks Joy for you. If it does, you fold it neatly and put it in its place. If it does not, you thank it for its service to you and you let it go. Sounds simple, right? Well, it IS!! But it also isn’t. Here’s why.
Once you start the process, you find that you gain momentum. It really makes you only want to surround yourself with things that only bring you joy. TRUE joy. And it’s contagious! It spreads. It makes you look at every aspect of your life, even your habits (if you are so brave). That’s where smoking comes in.
I know that YOU know that smoking is no good for your health, that it causes all kinds of diseases, and makes other diseases worse. We know that it ages your skin, decreases fertility, and can give men Erectile Dysfunction. That’s common knowledge for the most part. But even with all that, there are quite a few of you that smoke. In a word, it’s an addiction, and addictions are hard.
The first step to breaking an addiction is realizing that you have one. The next step is mental… purely mental, and it’s one of the hardest steps. Actually sitting down and deciding if smoking cigarettes REALLY sparks joy or if it’s being used as a crutch to help you avoid (or even get through) some other area of your life.
