When optimizing your online presence, it would be in your best interest to utilize social media while it’s still free. But then you ask how do I choose? Which platform or network will work best for me and my business? It seems like a daunting task, but it’s really quite simple.
Once you know who you are dealing with and looking for, everything else is simple. If you don’t know that, then you’ll never be able to figure it out, and you’ll just be spinning your wheels trying to find them. Here is a blog that can get you started knowing how to find them. Once you’ve read that article read this one. These will help. You absolutely must be clear on who you are serving to have a clear understanding of anything else.
Knowing your clientele is the first step. Then you want to think about your products and services. Are you selling nail polish to tween girls? If so, then you’re probably going to use Snapchat. Are you a wedding photographer? Then, Pinterest and Instagram are where you’re going to spend your time. If you’re targeting high level executives, then you need to get LinkedIn-Savvy. Knowing and understanding the demographic of your audience and where they tend to congregate will be a tremendous help for you.
You know another great way to find out which platforms you should be on?? Just ASK them! Ask your audience. Who knew?? Well, I didn’t even think about it until I was at a conference speaking and told them to follow me on social media. MOST of them came back and said that they started following me on Instagram. They mentioned IG more than they did Facebook!! I had no clue. I thought most of my audience was on Facebook, but they proved me wrong. I guess it’s time for me to step up my IG game, huhn?? (Here’s my Instagram page if you want to follow me there. AND… here’s my Facebook page if you want to follow me there. Just sayin… )
You have to start by knowing who you are trying to attract. Then show up in the places they are spending the most time. Don’t miss out on an easy chance at gaining visibility, clients, and financial gains because you are choosing too much or too little social media exposure. Go head and be seen by more of the people you are trying to reach!
